We LOVE research and learning as a way to get inspired and boost ideas and creativity!! So, Kenzie and I are going to be sharing the inspiration that we collect here in our second newsletter…. once a week!!!

Here’s how it works:

We provide the inspiration. You interpret it however you wish… any medium, any size. It is meant to inspire lettering and floral art combined together. But, you can:

Just do the florals, just do the lettering, or combine them together.
Use the provided quote for your piece or select your own.
Use colors from one of the inspiration images or select your own favorites
Create the floral art… as a still life in a vase, a single flower, a border, a pattern, a bouquet

Inspiration of the week: Maija Louekari

Maija Louekari is a native Finn based in Helsinki and currently working as a freelance illustrator and designer. Maija graduated with a Masters in design and a Bachelors in Interior Decoration from the prestigious University of Art and Design in Helsinki. She made her first splash in the design world by winning a design competition co-organized by Marimekko and the University. Her design “Hetkia” (Moments) was inspired by everyday life moments in Esplanadi Park in Helsinki. This award-winning pattern can be found in Marimekko’s home collection!

Her full time work for Marimekko has produced many popular patterns including “Siirtolapuutarha” (city garden) and “Räsymatto” (rag rug). Maija’s unique works merge sketch-like lines with bold, colorful shapes and bring together urban and natural life. May of her prints are larger-scale, and can be used as beautiful statement pieces such as curtains or wall art. Her designs can be found on everything from dinnerware, to shower curtains, phone covers and more.

Hand lettering inspiration of the week: Lynn Giunta

Lynn Giunta is a maker of things, creating happy art and positive words with scissors and collage. Every time she sits down to make something, she’s trying to recapture those moments of pure happiness that she had as a kid, sitting at the kitchen table creating crafts with her family.

Lynn stumbled into a calligraphy class while working on an undecided major in college, which opened the door to her future as a Master Lettering Artist. She started working for Hallmark Cards right out of college, and spent over 41 years there teaching workshops and creating designs with cut paper, hand lettering, and improvisation. She is a strong believer in the importance of imagination and play. She is recognized for her product excellence and her distinct, hand of the artist lettering voice.

She is always on the hunt for powerful word combinations, and the challenge of giving them a voice. Her journey of exploration led to discovering the joy of cut paper, and the endless possibilities of bringing words and illustrations to life through collage. She loves the spontaneity of cutting shapes out, and discovering the magic in the scraps that are left behind.
